Comparative psychology of positive emotions: A multi-componential approach to understand affective states in man's closest living relative, the bonobo. University of Antwerp
Once sustainable, always sustainable? Pro-environmental spillover behaviour: effects of conscious and nonconscious environmental goal pursuit and environmental goal importance. Ghent University
Behavioural science has identified several interventions that increase the likelihood of sustainable choices. For example, putting a vegetarian product on a visible in-store location enhances sales of that product. In this project I look at when and how effects of a behavioural intervention in a specific purchase context spills over to consecutive purchase decisions. I demonstrate that the direction of the spillover effect is critically ...
For better and for worse: Examining Environmental Sensitivity in adolescence at multiple levels of analysis and across development. KU Leuven
Children and adolescents differ in their ability to perceive and process information about their environment, that is in their environmental sensitivity (Pluess et al., 2018). Approximately 20 to 30% of individuals appear generally more sensitive than others, which means that they are more susceptible to characteristics of their developmental context (Pluess, 2015), such as the quality of parenting (Slagt et al., 2016). The overarching aim of ...
Relationship between critical environmental factors and physical activity: an experimental analysis Ghent University
In 3 experiments including 100 males and females per age category we explore:(1)which environmental characteristics are considered to be most supportive of physical activity in men and women of 3 different age groups (adolescents, adults, elderly)(2)which environmental characteristics are considered to be most supportive of physical activity for those that are more active compared to those that are inactive of sedentary(3)whether the ...
Modeling the perception of environmental soundscapes Ghent University
This postdoctoral project encompasses research into the mechanisms underlying the way in which people perceive their everyday sonic environment, and how this shapes their long-term quality of life perception. The knowledge on psychoacoustics and auditory perception will be made explicit in a simulation model, aimed at an integration in ambient intelligent systems.
ERC Runner-up project Modelling auditory perception of environmental sound Ghent University
In this project, a framework of models that simulate the different stages of auditory perception of environmental sound is built. The approach uses computational intelligence techniques to bridge the gap between low-level acoustical features and high-level concepts, such as meaning and evoked emotions, described through words. This research will benefit the development of technology that requires analyzing ambient sound.
STRENGTH : Survival, trigger and risk, epigenetic, environmental and genetic targets for motor neuron health. KU Leuven
Perceived and measured indoor environmental quality in hospitals: closing the gap. KU Leuven
The design of healthcare environments can have an impact on patients' emotions. These emotions can influence their comfort and health, and interlink with adaptation, i.e. the response to restore comfort when discomfort occurs. Adaptation affects energy use. In that context, researchers seek to develop models that predict comfort (MCP) or adaptations of indoor conditions (MAP); or try to understand the roles of the built environment (RBE) in ...
On epigenetics and how 'environmental' factors contribute to the long-term legacy of pediatric critical illness KU Leuven
Critically ill patients are patients who, due to a variety of triggering medical conditions, require vital organ support to avoid imminent death. Despite major progress in intensive care the patients still face a high mortality risk. Moreover, critical illness is hallmarked by features of accelerated aging where many patients experience an adverse legacy of the illness long after hospital discharge. This is mostly described for adults and ...
