Micro-gas chromatography in planetary, animal and human health research Ghent University
The application includes a Micro-GC to replace an outdated version and an extension with an automated sample introduction by coupling a 'Multi Position Stream Selector Valve system' and a 'Gas Endeavour® system'. This extended equipment reinforces the unique position in Belgium of Lanupro (ruminant nutrition) for in vitro simulation of methane emissions by ruminants as both screening and mechanistic-kinetic studies are optimized. Similarly, ...
IVIS Lumina II Bioluminescence camera for laboratory animal research Ghent University
The IVIS Lumina II is a bioluminescence camera for the detection of luciferase-transfected cells in laboratory animals (mice). The detection is based on the local catalysis of injected luciferin into light. Sensitive detection of metastases (even in the bone marrow) is the most important application in cancer research. The method also allows to monitor the evolution of cancer progression within the same animal.
Advanced research and training network in food quality, safety and security (FOODTRANET). Emerging chemicals in novel food commodities of animal origin. University of Antwerp
A platform to functionally assess clinically relevant respiratory parameters in small animal models for infectious and non-infectious pulmonary research. University of Antwerp
Special Research Fund Professorship in Plant Protection and Animal Health Ghent University
A BOF-ZAP-mandate holder receives an appointment or appointment as a member of the Independent Academic Personnel with mainly research assignment. The wage costs are charged to the resources of the BOF.
Toward improved translatability of animal research: Developing advanced social behavior tests in rats to assess microRNA depletion as a novel treatment target for the core social symptoms of Autism Spectrum Disorder. KU Leuven
Rodents emit distinct types of ultrasonic vocalizations. These ultrasonic vocalizations have been shown to serve important socio-affective communicative functions in regulating social interactions. For instance, 50-kHz calls help to maintain social contact and promote play behavior and are associated with activity in brain reward centers, as shown in playback experiments (The Journal of Neuroscience, 2014). Their production can be provoked by ...
Shelter for a researcher in need in Department of Animal Sciences and Aquatic Ecology Ghent University
The allocated BOF resources are used to appoint a foreign researcher in need who, due to circumstances beyond his control, is facing a delay in his research trajectory. This appointment enables the researcher in need to reach the objectives of his research project in due time.
EF 44 Longitudinal research in youth care and intersectoral annual report youth care KU Leuven
The objective of this project is two-fold. In the first place, longitudinal research into the care processes of young people will be rolled out. This requires, on the one hand, an adaptation of the existing registration systems so that the indicators supported in the preliminary investigation can be incorporated. On the other hand, a pilot study is needed to investigate the link with other databases. In the second place, the new ...
Project Animal Welfare, Animal Ethics and Animal Law Ghent University
This project is a collaboration between Ghent University and KU Leuven.
The research involves supervising a doctorate about the role of the animal in society with as common thread the "One Welfare" concept in which the interaction between animal and human welfare and the environment are central. "One Welfare" is considered a broadening of the "One Health" theme, with which it also partly overlaps. In recent months, it has become even ...
