SMEs in EU law and policy. A Bildungsroman about coming of age and/in growing pains. University of Antwerp
3D picometrology : new routes to explore the atomic arrangement using state-of-the-art electron microscopy University of Antwerp
An integrated multimodal platform for brain mapping at high spatiotemporal resolution: 3 Tesla MRI infrastructure. KU Leuven
Understanding the link between neural activity and human behavior is a central endeavor in neuroscience. Neuroscience research from animal models to human patients has direct translational applications: understanding normal brain function is critical for unraveling disease and paving the path to treatment. At our institution the number of competent imaging researchers is steadily increasing and this requires an expansion of the current ...
Welfare architecture and solidarity: Impact of hybrid organization on citizens' voluntary engagement. Ghent University
In continental welfare states, a historically new process of institutional hybridization is taking place, resulting in a new phase of institutional hybridization. This project examines the consequences for citizensU+2019 voluntary engagement by means of a case study of a U+2018classicU+2019 and U+2018hybridU+2019 nonprofit organization, involving an analysis at multiple levels and focusing on volunteers, professionals, and clients.

Business and human rights : a critical reflection on corporate human rights responsibility through a re-interpretation of US and EU corporate law and its foundational view on the corporations role within society KU Leuven
The current corporate regulatory framework leaves little room for an assessment of the corporate impact on human rights. The aim of this project is to understand why this is the case. It will examine to what extent the current state of affairs reflects a selective interpretation of existing corporate law through a specific ideology (predominantly that of maximizing shareholder value) and to what extent the existing legal provisions would ...
PHENOVISION: a plant phenotyping robot Ghent University
The project consists of developing a facility for fully automated imaging and analysis of plant growth in high-throughput. The PHENOVISION platform consists of a network of conveyor belts installed in a greenhouse on which 400 plants can be grown up to a height of 1.5 meter. The imaging takes place in designated cabinets and comprises RGB, IR, and hyperspectral imaging.
Electric stimulation in the brain cavity wall to reduce its associated symptoms. A generic approach applied in central post-stroke pain. KU Leuven
Human brains can contain holes or cavities due to brain cell loss, e.g. because of developmental defects, stroke or tumour resection. These cavities often result in various symptoms, such as pain, because the involved brain circuits can no longer function properly. Current treatment options for these symptoms include medication and a technique called deep brain stimulation (DBS). In DBS, metal electrodes are implanted in a specific region of ...
Modifying graphene by nanostructuring by molecular selfassembly. KU Leuven
We investigate the morphological, electronic and magnetic properties of few-atom aggregates using tunneling microscopy and tunneling spectroscopy, including spin-polarized tunneling spectroscopy, in ultra-high vacuum and at low temperatures. The finite size as well as the shape of the aggregates will play a dominant role due the presence of pronounced quantum confinement effects. Two types of few-atom aggregates are targeted: islands that are ...
Modification of graphene by nanostructures via molecular self-assembly. KU Leuven
The project deals with the concept of decorating graphite and in particular graphene surfaces with molecules, aiming at the one hand at band gap engineering of the graphene surfaces via molecular self-assembly and nanopatterning, and on the other hand using the molecule decorated graphene surfaces as platforms for sensing purposes. Furthermore, by implementing isothermal titration calorimetry, we explore new means to study molecular ...
