Adipose tissue expandability and dysfunction: modulator of liver damage and disease progression in NAFLD? University of Antwerp
Discovery of novel therapies for patients with CF not eligible for registered modulator treatments, assisted by novel microfluidic techniques for combinatorial, high-throughput organoid screens KU Leuven
An investigation into the role of the ventral attention network as modulator of spatial attention using behavioral and neuroimaging methods Ghent University
The aim of this project is to obtain a better understanding of the mechanisms of spatial attention. We focus on the interaction between the dorsal and ventral attention network and how they are functionally recruited. We aim to investigate the influence of executive functioning on this interaction and to pay particular attention to the functional role of the ventral network.
Glucocorticoid and selective glucocorticoid receptor modulator effects on tumour eco-system Ghent University
The glucocorticoid receptor (GR), after binding to its ligand, functions as a transcription factor to regulate the expression of multiple target genes. Here we investigate the influence of GR and its ligands: glucocorticoids and selective GR modulators on the cross-talk between cancer cells and their surrounding stromal cells, an interaction known to affect cancer cell invasion via secreted products.
Glucocorticoid and selective glucocorticoid receptor modulator effects on the tumor eco-system : dissociating the mechanism Ghent University
Tumor metastases can only form succesfully upon invasion of the primary tumor's surrounding tissue. Glucocorticoids (GCs) and selective glucocorticoid receptor modulators (SGRMs) can inhibit invasion via a largely unknown mechanism. In this project we study the effects of GCs and SGRMs on invasion-associated proteins and screen for new targets in the regulation of invasion mechanisms.
Methodology and design of a low-power 100G througput multi-channel opto-electronic modulator driver array Ghent University
As the capacity demands for telecommunications continue to grow exponentially, the energy consumption of the network increases super-linearly with capacity. New technologies are under development, but no good design methodology exists to solve the multidisciplinary challenges. Such a new methodology will be conceived, and applied to the design of arrayed electro-optical devices that can handle multiple 10 or 25Gbit/s channels.

Modulatory effects of the diet and Helicobacter gastritis in the association between high red (processed) meat consumption and oxidative stress. Ghent University
A high consumption of red (processed) meat is associated with a higher risk to develop a range of chronic diseases such as colorectal cancer, cardiovascular disease and diabetes. Although the underlying mechanisms are still not elucidated, oxidative stress following high red (processed) meat consumption could contribute to the onset and progression of these diseases. The Ph.D. thesis of the applying researcher showed that high amounts of ...
