Transformation of a healthy cell into a cancer cell is caused by accumulation of defects in vital cellular proteins regulating cell cycle, apoptosis and response to growth signals. Studying T−cell leukemia, we discovered that cancer cells can also acquire defects in proteins of the ribosome, the protein complex that translates mRNA into proteins.
