In search of a national (s)cul(p)ture. Belgian sculptors abroad and foreign sculptors in Belgium (c. 1815-1916) Ghent University
This project researches the social and cultural phenomenon of transnational exchange and
nationals ‘schools’ in the 19th century, via the less studied field of sculpture, and with Belgium
as a case. Importance is paid to the reciprocity of the exchanges: the presence and reception
of Belgian sculptors abroad, as well as the sojourns and exhibiting of foreign sculptors in
Belgium.
WRB- The development and application of a methodology to convert the Soil Map of Belgium following the Belgian Soil Classification System into a soil map following the World Reference Base (WRB)for Soil Resources Ghent University
Soils in Belgium were mapped between 1947 and 1991 and the maps were published at a 1:20 000 scale. Social Justice, Identity Construction and National Identification: A Social History of War Nationalism in Belgium, 1914-1925 Ghent University
This study on national identification in Belgium during and immediately after the German
occupation will examine to what extent and in what ways diverse social groups used national
sentiment to negotiate a reality radically altered. World War I is a crucial focus for nationalism research in Belgium, representing both the summit of Belgian nationalism and a cut-off point where a competing Flemish nationalism gained momentum. However, ...
Reconstructing Holocene geoecohydrological floodplain dynamics in NE Belgium KU Leuven
For millennia, river floodplains have been appealing environments for people, providing fresh water, fertile soil and flat terrain. At first, the low intensity practices of hunting, gathering, farming, and herding caused only intermediate disturbances, but the emergence of agricultural societies brought about significant changes to the landscape. The clearance of forests for agricultural purposes exposed soils, leading to a rise in soil ...
