In samenwerking met het Laboratorium Moleculaire Immunologie onderzoekt het Laboratorium Immunobiologie (Rega Instituut) de immunobiologie van ontstekingen, auto-immuniteit en kanker, met nadruk op de rol van cytokines (interferonen, interleukinen, cytotoxinen en chemokinen) en cellulaire proteasen (plasminogeenactivatoren, collagenasen, etc.).

De onderzoeksgroep omvat twee verschillende gebieden: 1. Neuroregeneratie in het centrale zenustelsel (therapien voor ruggenmergletsels en traumatische hersenenletsels)- Prof. Hendrix. Dento-maxillo-faciale regeneratieve geneeskunde: neuroregeneratie en botvorming gebruikmakend van stamcellen en implantaten, geanalyseerd mbv histologische technieken, grensverleggende toepassing van meerdere hoge resolutie imaging technieken - Prof. Lambrichts
