Optical networks: performance analysis, optimization and control by means of analytic modeling (FWO-postdoc Wouter Rogiest) Ghent University
We study algorithms for flexible switching in optical packet-switched networks. By means of queueing models and analytic optimization techniques we evaluate the performance of existing algorithms. This characterization allows to propose modified algorithms, interacting flexibly with the instantaneous variations of traffic over the network.

ACHIEVE-ETN aims at training a new generation of scientists through a research programme on highly integrated hardwaresoftware components for the implementation of ultra-efficient embedded vision systems as the basis for innovative distributed vision applications. They will develop core skills in multiple disciplines, from image sensor design to distributed vision algorithms, and at the same time they will share the multidisciplinary ...
Acoustic metamaterials: towards practical realisations KU Leuven
Human exposure to noise has increased over centuries and is recognized as the second largest environmental cause of ill health in today’s Western Europe. Common sound sources - e.g. traffic and machinery noise - are low frequent (< 2 000 Hz) and the thick sound absorbing panels, which are required to efficiently absorb these sound waves, conflict with the strive towards compact and lightweight design.

Dynamic coordination of intralogistics vehicle fleets with resource and routing constraints KU Leuven
To ensure the material flow of goods within warehousing and manufacturing, companies rely on intralogistics systems as an essential part of their supply chain management and production planning. Part of the material flows within intralogistics can be covered by intralogistics vehicles operating in a fleet to handle incoming transport orders. Vehicles can be operated either autonomously or manually, and vehicle fleets can be fully autonomous, ...
