Enhancing pharmaceutical crystallization in a flow crystallizer with ultrasound: Anti-solvent crystallization Universiteit Hasselt KU Leuven
Continuous crystallization is a fast growing application domain in the pharmaceutical industry. Application of ultrasound has been proven to have positive effects like reduction in induction time and Metastable Zone Width (MSZW) in both batch and flow systems. Further understanding of flow-based sonocrystallization is required to achieve industrial level scale up. This work investigates the sonocrystallization of pharmaceutical compounds in a ...
Quantification of isothermal crystallization of polyamide 12: Modelling of crystallization kinetics and phase composition KU Leuven
© 2018 Elsevier Ltd The crystallization of Polyamide 12 (PA12) has been investigated using a new experimental setup which allows in-situ synchrotron Wide Angle X-ray Diffraction (WAXD) during Flash-DSC measurements. The experimental results are used to parameterize and validate a new numerical model to quantify the quiescent crystallization kinetics, under isothermal conditions, of the three important crystal structures of PA12, i.e. the, γ− α′− ...
Isothermal Crystallization of PC61BM in Thin Layers Far below the Glass Transition Temperature Vrije Universiteit Brussel
Fast scanning chip calorimetry results on 1.25 μm thin layers of PC61BM. Evolution of the PC61BM endothermic peak during heating at 30 000 K·s−1, formed by isothermal treatments at 117 °C, over 80 K below Tg, using pathway from the molten state. An initial relaxation peak around Tg is formed which then disappears as a melting peak around 300 °C starts to form. Using fast scanning chip calorimetry it was shown that PC61BM, a widespread electron ...
Isothermal crystallization of ternary fat blends at the same solid fat content value as measured by DSC Universiteit Gent
Fat blends consisting of High Oleic Sunflower Oil (HOSO), Palm Kernel Oil (PKO), Palm Stearin (PS) or Fully Hydrogenated Shea Olein (FHSO) were prepared for shortening production. Each ternary fat blend was prepared to have a content of 50% both body temperature TAGs (25oC < m.p. < 50oC) and heated temperature TAGs (m.p. > 50oC). In the meantime, the temperatures for isothermal crystallization were selected at 35% solid fat content ...
Crystallization, micro- and nano-structure, and melting behavior of polymer blends KU Leuven
© Springer Science+Business Media Dordrecht 2014. All rights reserved. When the melt of a crystalline polymer is cooled to a temperature between the glass transition and the equilibrium melting point, the thermodynamic requirement for crystallization is fulfilled. In a crystallizable miscible blend, however, the presence of an amorphous component, either thermoplastic or thermosetting, can either increase or decrease the tendency to crystallize ...
Isothermal crystallization kinetics of P3HT:PCBM blends by means of RHC Vrije Universiteit Brussel
In this study, the isothermal crystallization kinetics of poly(3-hexyl thiophene) (P3HT) and [6,6]-phenyl C61-butyric acid methyl ester (PCBM) blend of a 50 wt% PCBM (1:1) were investigated by means of Rapid Heating Cooling Calorimetry (RHC). P3HT:PCBM blends are the state-of-the-art material for organic solar cells based on the bulk heterojunction concept. Their phase diagram was recently determined.1 Attaining the best performance requires a ...
Crystallization, phase evolution and corrosion of Fe-based metallic glasses: An atomic-scale structural and chemical characterization study Universiteit Hasselt
Understanding phase changes, including their formation and evolution, is critical for the performance of functional as well as structural materials. We analyze in detail microstructural and chemical transformations of the amorphous steel Fe50Cr15Mo14C15B6 during isothermal treatments at temperatures ranging from 550 to 800 degrees C. By combining high-resolution transmission electron microscopy and Rietveld analyses of X-ray diffraction patterns ...
Kinetics and crystallization path of a Fe-based metallic glass alloy Universiteit Hasselt
The thermal stability and the quantification of the different transformation processes involved in the overall crystallization of the Fe50Cr15Mo14C15B6 amorphous alloy were investigated by several characterization techniques. Formation of various metastable and stable phases during the devitrification process in the sequence alpha-Fe, x-Cr6Fe18Mo5, M-23(C,B)(6), M7C3, eta-Fe3Mo3C and FeMo2B2 (with M = Fe, Cr, Mo), was observed by in-situ ...
