Removal of micro-pollutants by nanofiltration from surface water in terms of drinking water production

Tijdschriftbijdrage - Tijdschriftartikel

Four nanofiltration membranes DESAL 51 HL DESAL 5 DL UTC-20 and UTC-60 are used to investigate the possibility of drinking water production from surface water by nanofiltration. It shows that the removal efficiency of COD and Abs at UV254 are 50%̃95 %, and the highest rejection is obtained by UTC-20. In addition, DESAL 51 HL, DESAL 5 DL and UTC-60 have 22%̃65% rejection for inorganic matter while UTC-20 reached 93%. Considerable rejection of nitrate above 70% was observed for UTC-20 due to Donnan effect, which can be used to remove nitrate and organic matter simultaneously. A slight membrane fouling occurred during short-term filtration test using river water and caused irreversible flux decline.
