The influence of fetal surgery on development of the fetal brain. A translational and clinical investigation

The primary objective is to determine the effect of maternal anesthesia and fetal surgery on brain development in a setting of congenital anomalies eligible for fetal surgery. We dissected out the effect of these different factors as well as their combination. Finally, we investigated potential neuroprotective measures. To investigate this overall effect is impossible in human fetuses, not only for ethical reasons, yet also because there are too many confounding factors. Therefore we will use an animal model with a template condition, i.e. CDH.
