Model predictive control for simultaneous regulation of hypnosis and hemodynamic states

In this paper, a centralized model predictive control algorithm to simultaneously regulate hemodynamic and anesthetic variables in critical care patients is proposed. The algorithm is tested in simulation on a hypnosis-hemodynamic combined model for use during general anesthesia. The preliminary results are promising and show the effectiveness of the control procedure. The anesthesiologist will always be in the loop and act as the primary controller by making the Remifentanil blood concentration setpoint changes based on observation about anesthetic depth.
