Boekbijdrage - Boekhoofdstuk Conferentiebijdrage

Knee arthroplasty is a surgical procedure thatreplaces severely arthritic or damaged knee joints. Afterundergoing this commonly performed procedure, there are stillsome patients who never fully recover. One of the reasons is thelack of patient compliance to the prescribed rehabilitationschedule. This paper describes the development of SEKO, a smartsystem which has the goal of improving the compliance of patientsto the rehabilitation schedule after a knee arthroplasty. This isdone by providing a system which connects a smart brace to apatient and his/her physiotherapist. The system exists out of threeparts: the smart brace which uses multiple sensors that gather dataof the movements and exercises performed by the patient, themobile application which uses the gathered data to give feedbackto the patient, and the web application which uses the data to keepthe patientU+2019s physiotherapist up to date on the rehabilitationperformance and progress of the patient. The result is a proof ofconcept in the form of a fully functioning prototype, which waspreliminary evaluated on the technical aspects and the usagescenario.
