Dynamic force identification by means of state augmentation: a combined deterministic-stochastic approach

Boekbijdrage - Boekhoofdstuk Conferentiebijdrage

In this contribution the dynamic forces acting on a structure are reconstructed using vibration response data in a combined deterministic-stochastic setting. Due to the ability of combined deterministic-stochastic techniques to incorporate modelling errors into the identification, these techniques are regarded as more robust than purely deterministic approaches. It is shown how standard state estimation techniques, i.e. the Kalman filter, can be employed for force identification in a combined setting by augmenting the state vector with the unknown forces. The effectiveness of the proposed method is demonstrated by means of laboratory experiments on a steel beam. It is illustrated how the quality of the identification is affected by the frequency content of the force and the number of sensors.
