Childhood Sarcoidosis

Boekbijdrage - Hoofdstuk

© 2016 Elsevier B.V. Childhood sarcoidosis is a general term that encompasses two quite distinct phenotypes, namely a familial disease with a predominantly rheumatic phenotype, Blau syndrome, and a sporadic form with multisystemic compromise that mimics the adult form of the disease. Blau syndrome is associated with a mutation in a receptor of the innate immune system NOD2 while adult sarcoidosis has no known genetic cause. This chapter provides a clinical and pathologic overview of both and focuses the pathogenic discussion on Blau syndrome.
