Boekbijdrage - Boekhoofdstuk Conferentiebijdrage

© 2018 Copyright is held by the owner/author(s). Young children adopt the media practices of their parents, which shape the possibilities for future “sustainable” media use as adults. This paper describes initial results from a small-scale study on sustainable family practices related to digital media use among American families with at least one child aged 6 or 7. Based on the analysis of eight interviews (with parents and children) this paper gives insight into ways that parents and children “act sustainably” towards digital media devices and content available in their homes. The work relies on recent advancements in media studies and sustainability in HCI. The paper tackles a problem space that affects the (online) well-being of today’s young people. Its main contribution concerns providing insights into the implications of the current sustainable media use of families with young children for future generations.
