The intimacy of public space : an interview with Kris Verdonck

Boekbijdrage - Hoofdstuk

In this interview dramaturg and scholar Kristof van Baarle and visual artist and theatre maker Kris Verdonck discuss two of Verdonck’s recent works, STILLS and ISOS. Both works make use of various media and relate the use of technology to politics. Verdonck discusses the intimacy of public space, and the invasion of commercial and governmental violence in both the public sphere and the personal space, and how technology facilitates this intrusion. The conversation positions this reconfiguration of the public/private, intimate/public binaries through technology and processes of commodification and surveillance within Verdonck’s larger investigation, through the arts, into the objectification of the human and the subjectification of the nonhuman.
