Project

ZEIN2012Z115 Kenia.

In this project, KU leuven and Kenyatta University (KU) collaborate to strengthen academic training in integrated natural resources management. The specific objective is that graduates of an MSc training programme on Integrated Soil Fertility Management and related MSc programmes at KU are equipped with the necessary job competencies to contribute effectively to improving the livelihoods of small-scale farmers in the East and Central African region. To this end the project focuses on improving the quality of training programmes at KU related to natural resources management by strengthening the link with 3 ongoing research-for-development projects (one of them with VLIR-UOS support) and improving hands-on training and field exposure of the students. This contributes to the wider efforts being undertaken in the region to create professional competence for interventions that raise and stabilize incomes of smallholder farmers in the East and Central African region through adoption of improved soil fertility management, water conservation and better marketing practices.
