Innovative search for heavy neutral leptons using parked datasets at CMS Ghent University
The current knowledge in particle physics is gathered in the so-called Standard Model. One of the primary objectives of modern experimental particle physics is the search for phenomena that can not be explained by the Standard Model. This research addresses the experimental confirmation or rejection of a theory that can solve some of the problems of the Standard Model related to neutrinos. Neutrinos are very light particles. In fact, the ...

Catheter-based sensors for the detection of molecular biomarkers KU Leuven
Within this project, we develop catheter-based sensors that will be used for the diagnostics of intestinal disorders with a focus on the irritable-bowel syndrome IBS. This syndrome affects ca. 10% of the population in western countries. The catheters will allow to assess the concentration of several biomarkers such as histamine and serotonin directly inside the intestines. The concentrations and their evolution over time will help to identify ...
Study on Chinese Phonetic Loan Characters in Dunhuang Manuscripts Dating from 700-1000 CE Ghent University
The project deals with an important mechanism in Chinese writing, the use of “phonetic loan characters”, as exemplified in the Dunhuang manuscript corpus and with an emphasis of non-canonical material dating from ca. 700 to 1000 CE. The use of loan characters will be systematically analyzed and its function concerning “orality” in Chinese writing investigated.
