The topic of this thesis is the precision measurement of the beta-asymmetry parameter A</>. It was measuredin the decay ...
The last few decades have seen a growing trend towards lightweight and high performance mechanical systems. Meanwhile, the average time-to-market has been drastically reduced. These recent developments are driving the manufacturer's need to predict the dynamic machine behaviour more accurately and at an early design stage. Due to the advent of modern computational capabilities, numerical simulation tools can be used for this ...
In the agro-food industry, there is an increasing demand for non-destructive quality inspection tools that allow to inspect every individual product. This is the result of an increased focus on food safety and quality over the past decades. Several fast, non-destructive and contactless technologies have been studied for food quality inspection, many of them based on the interaction of electromagnetic radiation with the food product. ...
Blood parasites have been recorded in a variety of vertebrate and invertebrate hosts, inhabiting both aquatic and terrestrial environments. Until this study, only a few blood parasite surveys had been carried out on frogs in sub-Saharan Africa. Thus information on the diversity of these parasites remained limited. To increase our knowledge of frog blood parasites, a large multi-approach study on the diversity, evolutionary biology, and ...
Due to the consumer demand, food industries have shown an increased interest in the production of healthier, more natural and more tasty vegetable-based products. In that context, a major challenge is to (re)design the manufacturing processes of such food products in order to comply with the increasingly important requested criteria. Flavour is one of the most important quality attributes in foods affecting consumers’ acceptance. The flavour ...
Children are admitted to the pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) when they acutely need vital organ support to avoid imminent death. Although most of the children need intensive care for only a few days and most of them seemingly recover well from the acute insult, many of them are confronted with long-term consequences after critical illness as observed years after hospital discharge. This legacy, which remains largely unexplained, broadly ...

In the TOM project, odor-reducing and anti-adhesion finishes for textiles were developed. The odor reduction was determined on the basis of ISO 17299-3 with the components isovaleric acid and 2-nonenal. Untreated cotton absorbed odor components to a greater extent than untreated polyester. Depending on the type of textile material, treated textile absorbs isovaleric acid up to 99% and 2-nonenal up to 90%. A semi-quantitative GC-MS ...This project concerns the implementation of an impact assessment of the ‘Youth Engagement’ component within the development education program of the Consortium G3W-M3M, Solidagro, and KIYO. This impact assessment includes three measurement points: baseline, mid-term review and final measurement. Besides assessing the project’s impact the evaluation also seeks to carry out an in-depth analysis of the programme’s contribution towards this ...
