Development of Sustainability Assessment in Rural Multiple Use Forest in the Upper Mekong Watershed, Northwest Yunnan, China Ghent University
Through integrating quantifiable ecological, economical and social forest attributes, this doctoral research proposal is designed to explore a new paradigm of sustainable forest management towards science based eco-management of rural multiple use forest. Moreover, it is to achieve objective resource assessment and adapted management procedures, and to allow for the establishment of a delicate balance between development and conservation.
Resource sustainability assessment of algae production systems: methodological development and case studies Ghent University
The objective of this PhD is to access the environmental resource footprint of algae production for several applications (e.g. feed) on a life cycle basis and to compare it with the footprint of the more traditionally used alternatives. Therefore, further development of a LCIA method, able to additionallyt quantify the impact of extracting marine resources and land transformation, is pursued.
