Impact of Belgian legislation on reproductive outcome of medical assisted conception in the Leuven University Fertility Center KU Leuven
In this research project we investigated the impact of the Belgian legislation on practice and outcome of assisted reproductive technology (ART) treatment. We also investigated the impact of these legislations from a health-economic point of view. How can we still improve reproductive outcome in the context of new legislation that forced us to change our daily clinical practice? In order to address these questions, several ...
European training network for developing Smart neurOmonitoring solutions to support PRecision medicine in Acute central Nervous Injury KU Leuven
In traumatic brain/spinal cord injury and stroke – major causes of death and disability -, progress has come from monitored intensive care and swift action upon detection of secondary insults. Although it is possible to monitor intracranial pressure, the brain & spinal cord still behave as a black box. Current measurable signals only roughly represent ongoing pathophysiological processes, and dynamic insults (eg impaired autoregulation ...
The evolution of arthrogenic muscle responses after ACL reconstruction and the effects of cognitive dual tasks in rehabilitation KU Leuven
After anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction, altered muscle responses around the knee joint are seen, known as arthrogenic muscle responses (AMR). Despite their initially protective function, prolonged presence of these AMR may potentially lead to knee joint pathomechanics, which in turn could contribute to an increased risk of early knee osteoarthritis. In the first part of this study, we aim to investigate which factors could ...

Developing and evaluating an eHealth application to develop palliative care capacity in people with advanced cancer and their family caregivers Ghent University
The aim of this project is to develop and evaluate a self-managed web program (iFOCUS) aimed at psychosocial and educational support for people with advanced cancer and their family caregivers. The program is tested on a small scale for acceptability and usability, after which the effectiveness and cost-effectiveness compared to standard care are evaluated in an international randomized controlled trial.

Feasibility evaluation of anti-HIV Antibody-secreting Chimeric Antigen Receptor T cells as a potential cure in acute seroconverters Ghent University
Anti-HIV Chimeric Antigen Receptor (CAR) T cells have so far shown little success in human clinical trials. Initial studies demonstrated excellent toxicity profile with little-to-none adverse events, however efficacy was limited. Similar to observations from pioneering CAR-T trials in oncology field, lack of strong co-stimulation was possibly to blame. Recently, a broadly neutralizing antibody (bNAb) based CAR-T cells were shown to reduce ...
Osteology Foundation: A randomized controlled trial on the timing of soft tissue grafting following immediate implant placement Ghent University
The primary study objective is to compare delayed soft tissue grafting (DSG) to immediate soft tissue grafting (ISG) in terms of buccal bone resorption using the following PICO elements:
P - Patients undergoing single IIP in the anterior maxilla (tooth 15-25)
I - Delayed soft tissue grafting (DSG) at 3 months
C - Immediate soft tissue grafting (ISG)
O - Buccal bone resorption

Deep multi-omics dissection of the CD8+T-cell immune-landscape in colorectal cancer (CRC) to reveal tumor-specific vs. microbial immune- drivers for immuno-oncological application KU Leuven
The main goal of this project is to comprehensively delineate novel, unanticipated, quantitative and qualitative features of colorectal cancer (CRC) patients’ CD8+T-cells, responding to both tumoral antigens or gut microbiome depending on CRC tumor-subtypes, and differentially modulating immunotherapy-response. With this project I will 1) Characterize the functional signaling drivers of CD8+T-cells activation and potential impact on CRC ...
