Uptake and toxicity of metals from metal mixtures in aquatic and terrestrial systems: rationalization based on metal bioavailability models. University of Antwerp
Uptake and toxicity of metals from metal mixtures in aquatic and terrestrial systems: rationalization based on bioavailability Ghent University
Environmental contamination with metals generally occurs as mixtures of different metals. Toxicity of metal mixtures is known to show all potential outcomes, i.e. metals act additive, more than additive or less than additive on organisms. There is a need to understand and quantify these interactions for a better assessment of environmental risks of metals. Here, we will analyze the mixture effects on metal uptake and toxicity by accounting ...
High speed sheet metal forming Exploiting the full potential of metals Ghent University
Sheet metal forming is a common technique to produce objects for different applications, such as cans, car components, thin-walled beams, … starting from a thin metal plate. Critical in forming is the ability of the metal to change its shape without excessive thinning or even failure. Even when no damage can be visually observed in the formed object, internal forming-induced damage might be present and affect the behaviour of the final ...

Non-Noble Metal Catalysis: research of the noble metals (Ru, Os, Rh, Ir, Pd, Pt) KU Leuven
Transition metal catalysts are formidable tools towards greener chemistry, allowing for low-waste, energy-efficient, and selective reactions. However, the noble metals (Ru, Os, Rh, Ir, Pd, Pt) that are currently most common in homogeneous catalysts suffer from high toxicity and environmental impact in addition to their scarcity and ensuing high cost. First-row metals (Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Cu) are emerging as environmentally benign alternatives, ...

Role of metals and metal containing biomolecules in neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's disease Ghent University
This European project aims to overcome the limitations caused by a lack of reference measurement procedures for established Alzheimer's disease (AD) biomarkers in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF), while also introducing reference measurement procedures for potential new blood-based AD biomarkers, such as metals and metalloproteins. The traceability of the provided reference measurement procedures will provide comparability between laboratories.
