Sustainable Pavements and Asphalt Research (SuPAR) University of Antwerp
Division of Forest, Nature and Landscape KU Leuven
Overall, the research carried out in this laboratory focuses on the spatial and quantitative assessment of biological and man-induced patterns and processes at the landscape and habitat level both in rural, urban and natural settings. We aim at coupling traditional research on forestry, landscape elements, land use, and biotic communities with earth observation, spatial data sciences, the statistical modeling environment, and planning tools. ...
Energy and Materials in Infrastructure and Buildings University of Antwerp
Architectural Engineering Vrije Universiteit Brussel
The research within the ae-lab is focused on 'the use of engineering tools to create architecture'. This approach is applied on three topics which ask for interdisciplinary studies: the design of light-weight structures, the issue of re-use, and the incorporation of 4D-design. LIGHTWEIGHT STRUCTURES Architectural and structural engineering are subject to an ongoing process of optimization. The search for lighter, more efficient and more ...
Crop Husbandry and Environment Research Institute for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food
This research aims for yield improvement and high-quality, sustainable plant production with respect for people, animals and the environment. We optimize and evaluate (new) crop husbandry techniques (rotations, new crops, soil management, nutrients) and seed processing techniques. We develop sustainable soil management and organize official variety testing. Some interface exists between crop husbandry and environment/nature.

Sustainable Chemical Process Technology, De Nayer (Sint-Katelijne-Waver) Campus KU Leuven
Technology Cluster Sustainable Chemical Process focuses on the domain of resource recovery and the production of renewable chemicals and energy carriers from waste, side and biomass streams. Examples of studied processes include wastewater treatment processes, mixed-culture microbial processes and the production of renewable chemicals by thermal, chemical and biochemical conversion technologies.
Analytical, Environmental & Geo-Chemistry Vrije Universiteit Brussel
The scientific approach focuses on the holistic use of biogeochemical tracers, such as elemental concentrations (Cd, Pb, PGE etc.) and isotopic ratios (D/H, 18O/16O, 13C/12C, 15N/14N, 87Sr/88Sr...), - in some cases referred to as "proxies" - that are measured on a substrate (e.g. mineral phase, fossil, mussel-shell, teeth, seawater, phytoplankton, ice cores etc.) to infer specific environmental parameters (such as condition of formation, ...
