AspICU - An international, multicentre epidemiologic study on Aspergillus species in intensive care unit patients with the objective to identify specific risk factors and the validation of a diagnostic algorithm to discriminate Aspergillus colonization Ghent University
Invasive pulmonary aspergillosis is a fungal disease with high mortality. Because of difficulties in diagnosis the true incidence of t his disease is unknown. There are no validated diagnostic criteria for intensive care patients. Our reserach group retrospectively developed a diagnostic algorithm with high sensitivity and specificity. The objective is to prospectively validate this diagnostic algorithm.
Chitinase (3-like) proteins as novel acute kidney injury biomarkers in intensive care patients Ghent University
Up to 2/3 of human intensive care patients develop acute kidney injury (AKI), which is independently associated with hospital-mortality. In canine patients, AKI is also accociated with a high mortality. Urinary chitinase (3-like) proteins are promising AKI biomarkers in our mouse sepsis model. Their genesis, function and processing in preclinical, as well as their diagnostic value in clinical conditions, are investigated.

BelRAI data analysis: care intensity categories and quality indicators KU Leuven
This research builds on previous research on the data from the BelRAI LTCF pilot project where the BelRAI care severity categories and quality indicators were examined for the available BelRAI LTCF data. So far, analyzes have been performed on all data (N=3759) collected as part of the implementation test. These analyzes lead to new and additional ones to ask.
