The Laboratory for Dystonia Research investigates dystonia pathophysiology. They predominantly focus on the molecular and cellular pathology of hereditary dystonia, but also have long-term goals of determining neurological defects and identifying therapeutic targets to treat dystonia.
Using a large panel of classical morphological techniques incl. enzyme- andimmunohistochemistry, as well as more advanced molecular techniques on tissue sections, we investigate the histology & the function of a variety of human tissues in normal & in pathological conditions.Throughout these research activities we attempt to optimise the available morphological techniques for light microscopy, electron microscopy, incl. transmission ...
NEGE will focus on the research of mitochondrial diseases and of genetic malformations of the brain.
Deficiencies of oxidative phosphorylation are at the basis of a heterogeneous group of hereditary disorders, better known as mitochondrial cytopathies. The incidence was long underestimated, but the morbidity and mortality of these conditions have an important impact on public health.
Hundreds of proteins involved in the formation ...
Topic A: Experimental in vitro toxicology: The use of isolated hepatocytes and their cultures for pharmaco- toxicological studies with focus on phase I and phase II biotransformation of xenobiotics; liver zonation of xenobiotic transformation; cell cycle and molecules affecting cell progression and cell signaling; the role of apoptosis in cell cultures; connexins and their importance in cell signaling. Topic B: Dermato-Cosmetic Sciences: ...
The service package consists of accredited analyses of (food) products, guidance of quality determination of raw milk, reference working for dairy, allergens, GMOs, water content in poultry, air emissions and sustainable agricultural production systems, technological test work, the Food Pilot food processing plant, advisory services to the dairy industry, inspection and maintenance of dairy equipment, design and testing of agricultural ...
The Division MeBios (Mechatronics, Biostatistics and Sensors) investigates the interaction between biological systems and physical processes. The emphasis is on the measurement of properties of biological products and process variables, the analysis of the measured signals by means of advanced statistical methods, process and equipment design, optimisation and control. Mathematical models to describe the working principles of biological ...
The Centre for Research & Development Monitoring (Expertisecentrum Onderzoek en Ontwikkelingsmonitoring, ECOOM) is an interuniversity consortium with participation of all Flemish universities (KU Leuven, UGent, VUB, UA and UHasselt). Its mission is to develop a consistent system of R&D and Innovation (RD&I) indicators for the Flemish government. This indicator system has to assist the Flemish government in mapping and monitoring ...
