Business and Human Rights Innovation Platform: Connecting Law and Management for Human Rights (BHRIP).

The 2011 United Nations Guiding Principles on business and human rights (the UN Principles) have an essential role to play in resolving an institutional misalignment resulting in governance gaps and legal accountability vacuums for business enterprises. This calls for a broad approach that encompasses all public and private (civil and commercial) governance systems that affect the conduct of States and business enterprises. The research network will examine the conceptual, practical and normative issues that arise in this process. The research network aims (i) to identify and facilitate common understandings of the meaning and the application of key concepts of the UN Principles and (ii) to devise conceptual anchors and approaches that fit both management and law, and that can serve as a foundation for future interdisciplinary academic research. An important objective of this research network is to promote the exchange of ideas, sharing of information and collaboration on business and human rights in four different research domains: international public and private law, management, philosophy/business ethics, corporate governance.
