The Department of Sociology is home to two research groups: research group TOR and research group Interface Demography (ID).
Research at TOR focuses on the study of time, culture and society. It groups the research activities of Prof. Glorieux and Prof. Spruyt. For a more detailed description of research within the TOR group we refer to the TOR website (www.vub.ac.be/TOR).
Research at ID is aimed at enhancing scientific understanding on the determinants and consequences of population change. ID’s work concentrates around five major research areas: 1) fertility and households, 2) health and mortality, 3) migration, 4) population dynamics and urbanisation and 5) data collection and data management. It groups the research activities of Prof. Deboosere, Prof. Vanroelen, Prof. Vandenheede, Prof. de Valk and Prof. Gadeyne. For a more detailed description of research within the Interface Demography group we refer to the ID website (www.vub.ac.be/demography).
Besides the two research groups TOR and ID, the Department also hosts the research activities of Prof. Vilrokx.
