Medical Imaging and Physical Sciences Vrije Universiteit Brussel

The department of 'Imaging and Physical Sciences' consists of the subunits Radiology and Clinical Imaging (RADI), 'Radiotherapy' (KANK), 'Nuclear Medicine' (NUGE). The main research topics for these three subunits are: For Radiology and Clinical Imaging: 1. Diffusion and perfusion magnetic resonance (MR) imaging and their application to the characterisation of healthy and pathologic tissues; 2. Susceptibility MR imaging of trabecular bone and ...

Our research is aimed at better understanding of the VWF/ADAMTS13/platelet axis in hemostatic, thrombotic and inflammatory processes. We use various in vivo models, combined with intravital microscopy to study molecular and cellular interactions. In particular, we focus on designing novel therapeutic strategies that interfere with von Willebrand factor function for treatment of thrombo-inflammatory disease.

The research group develops and uses non-invasive imaging methods of materials analysis, mostly based on X-ray fluorescence, X-ray absorption and X-ray diffraction. These methods are predominantly employed to solve problems in art conservation and art history. Next to conventional X-ray sources, also synchrotron micro- and nano X-ray beams are employed for high-resolution characterization of historical, natural and synthetic materials.

The specialization of Medical Imaging is available for diagnostic imaging in both companion animals and large pets in all its facets. Not only the classical techniques such as radiography (RX) and ultrasound, but also modern imaging, such as Computer Tomography (CT) and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), are part of the existing and controlled techniques. For specific cases there is also a Department of Nuclear Medicine (Scintigraphy or Botscan).

In Vivo Cellular and Molecular Imaging Vrije Universiteit Brussel

The In Vivo Cellular and Molecular Imaging (ICMI) Core Facility is specialized in nuclear and optical imaging of small animals. The lab is equipped with a myriad of multi-modality cameras and ex vivo analysis techniques to study tracer biodistribution, pharmacokinetics, dosimetry, and therapeutic efficacy of radiopharmaceuticals. The lab is situated in a biosafety level 2 environment with direct access to the animalarium.

Laboratory for Imaging Genetics KU Leuven

Medical Imaging Research Center is part of the department of human genetics of the KU Leuven. The Medical Imaging Research Center (MIRC) is an interdisciplinary research center with a central location in the University Hospital Gasthuisberg. It is surrounded by the different clinical imaging departments yielding easy access to the state-of-the-art imaging equipment and patient data. The focus lies on fundamental and translational research in ...

Medical Imaging Vrije Universiteit Brussel

In the area of medical magnetic resonance (MR) imaging our research focuses on two main topics: diffusion imaging and susceptibility imaging. Diffusion imaging. Magnetic resonance images can be sensitized to the brownian motion (diffusion) of the water molecules in the biological tissue under study. The microscopic composition and structure of the tissues have a drastic effect on the brownian motion and, hence, on the diffusion weighted ...
