ON-CHIP DETECTION OF MOLECULAR ROTATION Interuniversity Microelectronics Centre
This invention is an integrated photonic device that allows a user to measure molecular rotational diffusion. By means measuring the angular power distribution of the fluorescence emission (from a labeled molecule) coupled into a slab waveguide, the average rotation of the molecule during the fluorescence life time can be determined. This information is valuable for studying molecular kinetics, binding kinetics in bulk liquids and viscosity.
