Covid-Track: applying quantitative virology and single-cell genomics to unravel the virus-host interactions leading to severe immunopathologies in COVID-19 patients Ghent University
The world is under the spell of SARS-CoV2. More insight is urgently needed into how this new virus disrupts the human immune system and can cause serious illness. In this project we will work with a consortium of clinicians, virologists, immunologists, single-cell experts and bioinformatics scientists
to gain a better understanding of the immunopathology of SARS-CoV2.
ClinicalTrials.COV : Clinical long term-follow up of COVID-19 patients that underwent immuneintervention clinical trials or standard of care. Ghent University
The Department of Respiratory Medicine at UZ Gent has already admitted 134 COVID-19 patients with severe lung damage, hypoxia and cytokine storm. These were randomized in two newly designed immune intervention trials (COV-AID and SARPAC). This BOF grant will be used to pay for data managers and clinical follow up to study if these patients develop fibrosis and do better when they received immunointervention.
CoVAX-PreC – Preclinical evaluation of a potent COVID-19 vaccine candidate toward an accelerated clinical development KU Leuven
Within the group of Prof. Johan Neyts, the vaccine team (under the scientific lead of Dr. Kai Dallmeier) developed a promising COVID-19 vaccine candidate. This live-attenuated vaccine shows great promise in animal models. By this CoVax-PreC project we want to study the longevity of the triggered immunity as well as the potential of the vaccine to prevent SARS-CoV-2 transmission within a population (by means of a hamster transmission model). ...

Motivation Barometer: A bridge between theory and practice during the COVID-19 crisis Ghent University
From the beginning of the COVID-19 crisis, it was clear that this would not be a mere sanitary crisis, but also a psychological-motivational one. After all, our main weapon in fighting viral spreading is our behavior. The COVID-19 crisis can therefore be seen as the greatest behavioral experiment ever, with major implications for our well-being. Sustainably motivating the population in these stressful circumstances and supporting their ...
