In deze bijdrage onderzoek ik sociale verschillen in perceptie van de risico’s van zwangerschap en bevalling voor de gezondheid van vrouwen. Het onderzoek vertrekt vanuit twee theoretische invalshoeken. In de eerste plaats steunt het op de thesis van medicalisering. Ten tweede link ik medicalisering aan theorieën die verband houden met de vruchtbaarheidstransitie.
