Differences between NSA 94-106 and IEEE Std. 299 Setups for Low-Frequency Magnetic Shielding Effectiveness Characterization: A Study Using Numerical Simulations KU Leuven
This letter employs simulation findings to demonstrate the practical reasons why the low-frequency magnetic shielding effectiveness is different when characterized using two parallel loops (NSA 94-106) or two coplanar loops (IEEE Std. 299). It is shown how the change in the loop’s radius impacts the shielding effectiveness for the NSA 94-106 setup rather than for the IEEE 299 one. The observation is rooted in the difference of the wave impedance ...
Brain Feature Extraction with an Artifact-Tolerant Multiplexed Time-Encoding Neural Frontend for True Real-Time Closed-Loop Neuromodulation KU Leuven
Closed-loop neuromodulation is emerging as a more effective and targeted solution for the treatment of neurological symptoms compared to traditional open-loop stimulation. The majority of the present designs lack the ability to continuously record brain activity during electrical stimulation; hence they cannot fully monitor the treatment's effectiveness. This is due to the large stimulation artifacts that can saturate the sensitive readout ...
Application of a Testing-to-Failure Approach to the Susceptibility Assessment of Electronic Systems KU Leuven
The trustworthiness and safety of an electronic system can be compromised by a harsh electromagnetic environment. Additionally, an electronic system may experience various types of failures under electromagnetic disturbances, resulting in varying levels of (un)reliable operation. To address this, this paper proposes the use of a testing-to-failure approach for characterising the susceptibility profiles of a medical monitoring system as an ...
Electromagnetic Hazard Analysis Technique based on System-Theoretic Process Analysis KU Leuven
This paper presents a hazard analysis methodology based on systems thinking to address electromagnetic interference risks in complex systems. The proposed methodology extends the recently proposed hazard analysis technique System-Theoretic Process Analysis to include electromagnetic interference (EMI) hazards. This technique involves analysing the control structure of the system to identify potentially unsafe control actions. This paper focuses ...
Numerical Analysis of the Variability of the Shielding Effectiveness of Gaskets Characterized by the MIL DTL 83528G method KU Leuven
This paper provides an overview of some full-wave simulations that were conducted to investigate the variability in the shielding effectiveness of gaskets, when characterized by the MIL DTL 83528G method. In the simulations, the shielding effectiveness is calculated based on near-field sensors at different distances as well as far-field sensors which are basically at an infinite distance. Moreover, these sensors are placed according to a half ...
