Richard Makurumidze

  • Research Expertise  (Vrije Universiteit Brussel):

    Specialist Public Health Physician with over 10 years of experience in HIV clinical management, programme implementation and research. Holder of a Bachelor’s Degree in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Zimbabwe(UZ), Diploma in HIV Management from the Colleges of Medicine of South Africa, Master of Science in Public Health (MPH) from the UZ and MPhil in HIV & AIDS Management from the University of Stellenbosch. He also has several other postgraduate courses which include Short Courses on Antiretroviral Therapy and Clinical Research and Evidence Based Medicine from Institute of Tropical Medicine, Antwerp (ITM) and Leadership & Management in Health, Clinical Management of HIV and Fundamentals of Implementation Sciences from University of Washington. Worked as Consultant Medical Officer for Population Services International HIV & TB treatment programme, Training Coordinator at the UZ Department of Medicine Global Fund Round 8 Project and Medical Officer at MSF-Holland Epworth HIV & TB Project. Worked as the Project Manager for International Training Education and Centre for Health (I-TECH) HIV & TB treatment, care and support programme in Zimbabwe which was funded by PEPFAR through CDC, Zimbabwe. Later worked as the Clinical Advisor for the same programme. He is involved in various HIV & AIDS trainings initiatives which include teaching and facilitating PMTCT and Evidence Based Medicine for eSCART students at the ITM. He is a founding member of the Zimbabwe Institute of HIV & AIDS Trust an organisation involved in HIV capacity building. Currently he is a PhD student; sandwich programme between UZ and ITM. He was awarded a scholarship funded through the Belgian Development Cooperation. His PhD project is focusing on differentiated programmatic implementation of HIV Treat All in Zimbabwe. He participates in community social responsibility initiatives and is the Deputy Chairman of the Epilepsy Support Foundation National Management Committee.
