Project

Signal processing for hearing aids motivated by auditory perception.

The major problems of hearing aid users are understanding speech in background noise, a reduced spatial hearing and the occurrence of acoustic feedback between the receiver and the microphone of the hearing aid. This project envisages the design of objective evaluation procedures and signal processing techniques that are based on models of auditory perception in normal hearing and hearing impaired subjects. In order to increase the robustness of the signal processing techniques in complex acoustic scenarios, aspects of auditory scene analysis will be exploited.
