Posttraumatic growth in young people placed in residential care: Presence and relationships with traumatic stress, maltreatment histories and protective factors

In this project, we will explore posttraumatic growth as an index of positive change in residentially placed young people aged 16-18. In a survey study in a sample of 250 young people living in residential units or units for living independently, we will measure the presence of posttraumatic growth and relationships between posttraumatic growth and traumatic stress, maltreatment histories and protective factors at the level of individuals (mental health, self-esteem, competence, autonomy) and their care environments (social climate). This study will be the first one on posttraumatic growth as an outcome measure in young people living in residential care facilities.
