Project

The pantheon of the Temple of Shanhur. The text and decoration programme and its cult-topographic analysis.

The aim of the project is the completion of the recording of the decoration and text programme of the temple of Shanhur (governorate of Qena, Egypt), which dates to the Roman period. In collaboration with the University of Swansea, the existing copies of the scenes and texts will be collated for the last time and prepared for publication. The architectural description of the monument will also be completed. On the basis of the compiled information the religious background of this small provincial temple will be placed in perspective by comparisons with the theological systems reflected in the larger temple complexes in the region (LUxor, Karnak, Coptois, Dendera). The project will lead to the completion of the final publication of the Leuven mission to Shanhur (1993-2001).
