Optimization of the morphology and stability of low band gap copolymer: PCBM blends. (R-2903)

In the field of organic solar cells an impressive amount of progress has been made in the last few years. As a result, the milestone of 10% efficiency, required to allow commercialization, is now within reach. However, some important issues still need to be solved. Some of the most important challenges are gaining intimate control over the morphology of the active donor:acceptor blend and stabilizing the optimum morphology to avoid rapid degradation of the solar cell characteristics. This project aims to develop a solution to this problem by investigating the relationship between the introduction of specific functional groups on a novel generation low bandgap donor polymers (PCPDTBT) and the morphology of the active layer.
