Project

Optimal sound transmission to the inner ear of acoustic hearing implants.

In recent years, new implants driving the inner ear through mechanical vibrations have been developed. This project investigates the exact soundtransmission pathway of acoustic hearing implants directly coupled to the human inner ear. We therefore use micro-optical pressure sensors within the cochlear fluids. Secondly, electrophysiological tests based on brain activity synchronized with auditory stimuli, will be developed for use during the surgery. All together, this innovative project makes a major contribution to research on inner ear stimulation by investigating the implantsefficacy, their coupling to the inner ear and their impact on cochlear micromechanics.
