Project

Microreactors in a digital lab-on-a-chip.

In this project we envisage to study the potential of microreactors on a digital lab-on-a-chip for two applications. (i) The development of an enzyme-base analytical chip for the simultaneous detection of sugars and acids in food products. For the doctoral research enzymatic assays were already miniaturized in microplates and implemented in acontinuous lab-on-a-chip. (ii) The manipulation of individual cells on a digital platform to study the physiologic and biochemical properties of the cell in a microreactor (=droplet) on the chip. This application has a great theoretical potential as high-thoughput platforms for biochemical research and derived applications. In additions both applications are in close proximity with the research topics of the MeBioS-division (bionanotechnology, biosensortechnology and micro(nan)fluidics).
