Microplastic pollution in the marine environment

Microplastics significantly affect the marine environment. In this project, the interaction of microplastics with other contaminants and the impact on living organisms including humans will be studied in field samples and laboratory experiments. Particular attention will be given to the fate and behavior in the Belgian part of the North sea to better estimate the potential impact.
