Project

Resource management in Kivu as part of post-conflict reconstruction

The Université Catholique de Bukavu (UCB) is an institution with regional vocation, and wants to fulfil its responsibility in education and research with her societal responsibility in the promotion of development and in the search for solutions to the problems and needs of the population. In the frame of an institutional cooperation with Flemish universities via the Vlaamse Interuniversitaire Raad - Universitaire Ontwikkelingssamenwerking (VLIR-UOS), the UCB wants to develop a program that consolidates and increases its expertise in the solving of problems related to a post-conflict situation. In addition, the university wants to capitalize on existing human resources in order to establish a doctoral school for the local training of needed experts and academics. The program is formulated through thematic research projects in the fields of agriculture, economy and law, medicine. Each project also gives importance to academic training (of scientific staff) and professional training (of social actors), to the establishment of research laboratories, and to the training of students at the local hospital and on agricultural experimental fields. The preliminary phase (pre-partner project) is destined to prepare the start of the program and consists of activities to establish a cooperation cell and to conceive and write the partnership program.
