Innovative design of experiments, data analysis and optimization software

The Biostatistics group within the MeBioS Division of the Faculty of BioScience Engineering is a world leader in research on design of experiments, data analysis, modeling and optimization. In the last years, we have developed scientific assets in these fields which have a proven valorization potential. Central is our proprietary catalog of novel experimental designs and our web-based software to efficiently find the best design for any given practical setting. The first goal of this project is to make a detailed business plan for the launch of a spin-off company that will offer this web-based software to a wide variety of industries. The pre-trajectory of this application (our C3 project) resulted in the choice for a radically new approach of licensing, based on a pay-per-use approach on top of a yearly license. This approach, however, requires additional research for defining the optimal pricing strategy that allows us to address both expert and basic users, and to define different price categories depending on the complexity of the chosen experimental design. The second goal of the project is to strengthen our IP position. Our strategy, including expanded IP protection through patenting, has been clearly defined in the pre-trajectory and needs to be executed concretely in close collaboration with LRD and an external patent attorney.
