Evaluation of CFTR function on organoïds in patients with cystic fibrosis.

Our ambitious Belgian project on the organoids will meet many needs. Organoids are mini intestines. They are grown from stem cells that are isolated from a small piece of intestinal tissue. A test is carried out on these mini intestines that measures how well the CFTR protein works and whether this effect can be improved by medicines or combinations of medicines. Taking a sample from the patient is painless, gives minimal burden and does not require anesthesia. You can compare it with the temperature rectal measurement. These 2 different needs, 1) many patients with different mutations and 2) many different companies that design medicines, can be well advanced with an ambitious Belgian project about the organoids.
