The effectiveness and cost-efficacy of different guidance methods to facilitate lifestyle changes in the treatment of NAFLD (R-12352)

This is a Flemish controlled randomized trial (RCT). Patients with Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD) who meet the inclusion criteria of the study are asked to participate in this RCT. Participants must be 18 years of age or older, diagnosed with NAFLD by CAP as measured by the FibroScan® device. The intervention consists of a controlled follow-up of NAFLD patients for one year with a focus on a healthy lifestyle. There will be in-person follow-up with a lifestyle coach in one group, while the other group will engage in self-monitoring using an application. Standard care will be used to compare both intervention arms. A significant reduction in liver fat is expected in both intervention groups compared to the control group. The reduction in liver fat reduces the risk of complications and comorbidities such as cardiovascular disease and type 2 diabetes mellitus. In addition, an increase in quality of life is expected and cost-effectiveness between the three arms will be determined.
