“Beyond GDP”: Using the direct rating method to construct a minimally paternalistic well-being index

This project addresses the weighting of dimensions in a multidimensional well-being index. Using representative individual data for Flanders, we (1) study the heterogeneity in opinions about ‘the good life’ and investigate its determinants; (2) construct a minimally paternalistic weighting scheme and (3) compare this weighting scheme from the point of view of the individuals identified as worst off.
