Project

Optimisation of the lignin composition of poplar to improve biomass processing in favor of a bio-based economy.

In an attempt to improve the industrial processing of lignocellulosic biomass, the lignin composition of poplar will be altered without inducing yield penalties. Using genetic engineering, alternative monomers will be incorporated into the lignin polymer. Poplar trees grown in the field and in the greenhouse will be analysed using different cell wall analyses to evaluate the effectiveness of this method.
