Project

The soil as a guide to better potatoes

The bottom of the Flemish Bulge is very heterogeneous in composition, with varying thickness of loess on a clay or sand-rich substrate, even within lots. With GPS-linked mobile soil sensors of this variability can be accurately mapped and evaluated. Additional information comes from crop scans. In this project several lots will be scanned. Based on the measurements will be defined zones within these areas which are best managed in a differentiated way. To growers will be given advice on how they can respond to the measured variation, the aim is to optimize both crop production and environmental minimize the. This kind of precision is the next step for a better way to deal with our local production.
