The societal impact of university research: participation on European projects dealing with the societal challenges.

Journal Contribution - Journal Article

The outbreak and handling of the COVID-19 pandemic clearly illustrate the importance of governments playing a coordinating, facilitating and financing role to meet the needs and requirements of society. This is also the case for other cross-cutting issues that require research, such as climate change, energy supply and security. In order to be able to provide an adequate answer to such social problems, a society, and therefore a government, needs knowledge and therefore research. Universities play a key role here, supported and guided by significant financial support from governments at all administrative levels: European, federal, regional.
