Project

Sustainable utilization of microbial resources

This project will investigate diversity and establish model database of some nutrient cycling mushroom group (mycorrhizal and saprobic). A second aim is the discovery of good properties of selected microbes obtained from the first project. 1. Mycorrhizal fungi as Plant Growth Promoting Microbes (PGPM): AMF for teak, vegetable and fruit crop, EM fungi for pine and some dipterocarp. 2. Endophytes as PGPM and biocontrol agent for rice and oil palm. New strains will be selected for bioplastic production and degradation and secondary metabolites from selected plant to control some plant pathogen. Product development for practical use will be undertaken using Phlebopus portentosus, cellulose degrading microbes as feed, on-farm production of AMF and formulation of biofertilizer using PGPR. Feasibility of production and scale up will also be analysed.
